The Gathas are a collection of ancient hymns or songs attributed to Zarathustra (Zoroaster), the founder of Zoroastrianism. These sacred texts are considered the most authentic and revered compositions within Zoroastrianism.
Origin and Significance.
The Gathas are part of the Avesta, the primary religious scripture of Zoroastrianism. They are composed in an ancient Avestan language and are believed to be the direct words of Zarathustra himself. The Gathas hold immense global spiritual significance and provide insights into Zoroastrian theology, ethics, and cosmology.
Structure
The Gathas consist of 17 hymns divided into five distinct sections or songs. Each hymn is dedicated to a specific deity or divine concept. The themes include praise of Ahura Mazda (the supreme god), reflections on morality, and Zarathustra’s personal experiences.
